Scenic Lead
Position Purpose:
The Scenic Lead operates within a diverse team of Artists and Craftsmen/women, in multiple fields such as carpentry, scenic painting, sculpting, soft goods and installation. They execute the build of full-scale scenery, as specified by a production designer or art director working in collaboration with the allocated project manager, this may be entire projects or elements within a specific project.
The role provides senior level of artistic knowledge to the team and participates in design reviews to facilitate efficiency once projects are in production.
The essential duties include technical leadership and day to day coordination of a dynamic team as well as working closely with the manufacturing manager to meet budget and output targets set out by project requirements. Within this role you will share, mentor and develop skill sets with the team, whilst maintaining and supporting company standards, working practices, processes and maintaining safety to a high standard.
Outcomes of the Position:
Complete work allocated to team and report on progress.
Maintain delivery of quality projects to scheduled department delivery dates.
Artistically create /products using tools/equipment according to specifications in the arts and crafts environment.
Hands on input of skillset/experience on projects/tasks within workshop environment.
Collaborate with other departments to resolve problems
Participate in design reviews to provide constructive feedback and expertise.
Lead team to execute projects in line with production estimates.
Ensures that the working environment is safe, and housekeeping is to a high standard
Responsible to motivate team members and create effective working relationships.
Support the project and estimation team to develop robust bids when required
Feedback team performance/issues to manufacturing manager.
Key responsibilities/Decision Making Authority:
Read, interpret, follow designers’ drawings and ensure implementation according to the details.
Engage in root cause analysis and resolve problems.
Liaise with other departments to ensure efficient project delivery.
Participate and give input in the creation and signing off production estimates.
Ensure team productivity level is achieved daily.
Feedback progress of team performance daily.
Identify and deploy skillset needed within team to deliver projects.
Feedback team and individual’s performance.
Report all team disciplinary/standard issues to Manufacturing Manager.
Work to process, incorporating SSOW’s/Quality standards.
Periodically check all equipment is maintained to high standards and report issues.
Evaluate materials/parts etc before activities carried out and on completion of assemblies conform to quality checks. Report via NCR if any issues.
Maintain clean and safe working environment.
Comply with clock procedures to comply with company processes.
Be flexible to perform duties throughout other departments.
Engage in personal development programs/training.
Operate within individual and team environment maintaining work ethics individually and alongside other team members.
Communication between line manager/colleagues.
Foundation/Position Requirements:
Skills and experience necessary to meet the expectations and requirements for the role – technical expertise, qualifications, certifications, work experience in a subject matter/function
Directly related experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved within a creative department.
Ability to work in a productive team environment.
Ability to build effective and clear communication with the management.
Ability to learn and transfer solid product knowledge.
Complete all relevant department certification, Manual handling etc.
Able to work within company Health & Safety guidelines
Ability to read CAD drawings and measuring from a scale model
